With age, comes wisdom, and a better understanding of financial freedom.

Ever got annoyed with all these financial gurus you found online, spewing nonsensical advice like stop buying avocado toast, make your coffee at home, and bring your lunch to work?

While I believe in all three of the aforementioned, believe me, I get you. There are tonnes of so-called experts preaching the same set of mantras over and over again, advising on the subject of personal finance. Growing up in a family that had never owned a house or a car, the idea of being financially free seems far-fetched. All this advice seems either unrelated, out of touch, or just takes too much time and effort, and a lot of imagination.

From the beginning of my career in IT about 20 years ago and my dabbling in the investing world, I have been hearing and seeing the same suggestions over and over again. As a hot-blooded young man, eager to make up for the disadvantage of my upbringing and aiming to get the best return on my investment in the shortest time, I inadvertently ignore all this advice. Instead, my investment relied on hot tips from strangers and what’s trending. As you would have imagined, and scores of budding investors realized, I paid my due in education, in hard cold cash, lost in the market.
